Axes to Throw

The ultimate complete guide

Axes to throw

Which axe will I try in my Axe Throwing session? How can I know which axe to throw?

Now that axe throwing is becoming trending you are surely looking for an axe, either to try it at our Axe Throwing store, to sign up for one of the Urban Safari leagues, for the Spanish Axe Throwing Championships or just to throw axes at home.

As axe throwing experts let us give you some recommendations first.

Recommendations before choosing your axe to throw

Axe throwing is influenced by three main factors: the axe, the thrower and the target. Therefore, it is important that you know your weaknesses and strengths when throwing in order to choose your throwing axe. For this we understand that there are three main factors that make a thrower choose an axe or another, and they are:

  1. The strength you have at your disposal
  2. The precision you are looking for in your throwing
  3. The release of stress

SAFETY:

Firstly, what we take into account when choosing an axe is to know the technique to throw it (you can take a look at our post on How to throw an axe). The safest and most suitable axes for a beginner will always be single-edged, with a rigid handle (avoid soft rubber handles) and a weight of about 1kg.

Secondly, is the force that you are going to exert, whether you exert little force or the opposite, you must adapt the intensity to the type of axe and the materials used for its manufacture. It is very simple, a standard axe weighs around 1kg, if you use a 2kg axe you will have to exert more force and if you use a 300gr axe you will have to decrease the force.

Thirdly, the size and weight of an axe vary the distance from which it should be thrown. A 2kg axe with a normal size handle must be thrown from closer while a 2kg axe with a long handle must be thrown from farther away.

In conclusion, Throwing axes may seem dangerous, but if its done wisely, its not!
